Do you agree to that
A teacher's experience facing students' misbehavior and hate
[*]][b]
[*]
• Establishing expectations: let the students know what you expect from them. If they choose to misbehave, their choices will have consequences.
• Meaning what you say and saying what you mean: students will test you. You have to follow through.
• Applying rules fairly: don't play favorites. If you let one kid slide, they all have to slide lol.
• Not being their friend: it's great if the kids like you, but there will always be a few who will dislike you just because you're an adult...even worse, a teacher. Remember, you are there to teach, not to make friends.
• Not being their enemy: never forget what it's like to be their age. They are going to mess up from time to time, so depending on the offense cut them some slack. Not everything needs to be written up.
• Showing them respect: some teachers use the Machiavellian method of being feared rather than loved. This may produce short-term results, but it causes more harm than good. Make things easier on them and on yourself and follow the golden rule.
• Building rapport: figure out what your kids like/dislike. Ask questions. Talk about non-classroom matters from time to time. Caveat: just don't start acting like them lol.
• Stay calm: I'm most guilty of this one lol. Sometimes your students will say or do things that will have steam coming out of your ears. Try and keep your cool. Also, don't take anything they say or do personally. One day they will grow up, and hopefully have their own classrooms. Then they'll remember good old Mr. or Ms. So-and-So, whom they used to drive crazy. I sure do.
Hopefully this helps. Good luck.

This is pretty common so don't feel like you're alone. I used to struggle with this too. Here are some things that may help, based on my experiences and observations from other teachers. May or may not apply to your situation.
